November 2007 was a prime time for us to host two alumni speakers. Dr. Tanja Dominko's (Ph.D. 1996) discussed her work on tissue restoration following traumatic injury. We also welcomed back Dr. Scott Walsh (MS 1972, Ph.D. 1975) to learn about his work on Preeclampsia at Virginia Commonwealth University. Read both stories in our second edition.

We continue to enjoy your comments, stories and updates as a result of our first alumni survey and newsletter featuring Dr. Charles "Pat" McCormack (Ph.D. 1963).

Alumni Information

Since 1959 when the Endocrinology-Reproductive Physiology Program was formally organized as a graduate degree granting program, we have trained 123 M.S. graduates and 146 Ph.D. graduates. Time to degree varies for each student depending on the completion of key course requirements, identification of a faculty advisor and development of a research project. The majority of students will be able to earn a M.S. degree within 2.5 years of full-time study and a Ph.D. degree in 5-6 years of full time study. The majority of students typically will have published in a peer reviewed journal prior to degree completion. It is not uncommon for our graduates to have more than two peer reviewed publications while enrolled.

Our alumni have entered and succeeded in a range of career paths from academia to industry to government research. Current graduates obtain prestigious post-doctoral positions at leading universities and research facilities. A number of graduates also are admitted to esteemed medical, law and veterinary schools for additional professional training. More than 80% of our graduates remain active in research within the field of Endocrinology-Reproductive Physiology.

To celebrate our upcoming 50th Anniversary of graduate training in 2009, a special guest alumni seminar series is planned for 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 to recognize the many achievements of our graduates. Our 2007/2008 speakers are:
